I wanted to stay but Stan had been singing his way in the direction of our house so I had to go.
When I got home Stan was in a panic about how he was in trouble at work but I didn’t care at that moment, I needed a shower and I was still mad at him, plus I was still all buzzy from the fun I had.
I should have cared because apparently, he had gotten in so much trouble without me that he got us shipped out to Saudi Arabia!
What the hell was I supposed to do there? I mean, sure there’s some sightseeing but Arab men are not exactly my type and married women generally can’t do… well… anything.
Well, it turned out that the women there had already solved that problem!
We had only been there a few days when our neighbor invited us over for something called mejmouae al-gans which I supposed was tea. I took Steve and Haley because, well, what else were they to do in a strange country. So tea with a few of the neighbor’s wives it was!
Luckily one of the women had a son a few years younger than Steve so as soon as we got there they ran off to play in his room. That left Haley and me to get to know the three strange women. They introduced themselves as Alya, Nura, and Leila. They eyed me appreciatively but looked a little taken aback when I introduced Haley as my daughter. I assumed it was because we don’t look a lot alike.
They were very nice and we all got along really well, laughing and complaining about our men. Seems men around the world are all the same. Haley wasn’t exactly enjoying herself but that was her problem.
She really needs to find a man.
Without warning, Nura yelled upstairs, “Rashad! Stay upstairs. We want to relax!”
I heard a door quickly close upstairs. Nura and the other ladies pulled off their hijabs as if on cue.
I figured this was just what these women did to relax. Feeling we should do the same I removed my headscarf and reached out to take Haley’s off when Haley sputtered out her tea, her eyes practically popping out of her head.
